Position Summary

The Lead Process Engineer provides direction, guidance and mentorship to a team of process engineers who collaboratively provide effective process and technical input to Production and Project personnel in achieving operational excellence that meets budget goals and improves plant performance while minimizing risks to people, equipment and the environment.


ƒ{ Lead, supervise and oversee the development of a team of process engineers through one-on-one coaching and mentorship.
ƒ{ Collaborate with the Production group and make recommendations for process changes to achieve establishe targets related to production tonnage, plant energy efficiency and plant outages.
ƒ{ Monitor the performance of individual plant equipment including catalyst, turbines and compressors, heat exchangers, and distillation, and make recommendations for equipment maintenance or replacement to improve performance.
ƒ{ Support the development of plant operating procedures.
ƒ{ Inform the development of the annual budget with emphasis on production rates and energy efficiency.
ƒ{ Provide process engineering support and input for plant change requests and major capital projects, including operational changes, improvements and justifications for change.
ƒ{ Lead or participate in safety audits of the facility, Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) of existing facilities and new projects, root cause investigations of incidents and identification of corrective actions.
ƒ{ Participate as an integral member of the site reliability team and global process team.


Technical Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
ƒ{ Undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, accompanied by a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
ƒ{ Ten to fifteen years of relevant process engineering experience in a natural gas based chemical plant or similar industrial environment, including experience specifically with hydrogen reforming
ƒ{ Project engineering experience is a strong asset
ƒ{ Supervisory experience leading teams and mentoring engineers
ƒ{ Strong business acumen and an exceptional ability to analyze data and trends
ƒ{ Experience with Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) and root cause analysis as both a participant and leader
ƒ{ Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Process Modelling software, such as Aspen HYSYS, as well as the Microsoft Office suite of programs

ƒ{ Superior ability to build and maintain constructive and effective relationships, including strong collaboration skills
ƒ{ Customer-focused perspective evidenced by a commitment to meet and exceed the expectations of internal and external stakeholders
ƒ{ Superior mentoring skills and a demonstrated ability to foster the engagement and development of direct reports, challenge and stretch team members in meaningful ways, and build a strong, agile team

ƒ{ Flexible, adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity, evidenced by the agility to respond to shifting priorities and effectively cope with change
ƒ{ Superior technical problem-solving skills and sound judgment, demonstrated by an ability to make valuable and expedient decisions based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom and experience
ƒ{ Superior planning skills and attention to detail, including the ability to set objectives and goals, delegate responsibilities, anticipate obstacles, measure performance against goals and evaluate results
ƒ{ Extremely organized with strong prioritization and time management skills, demonstrated through a consistent ability to manage multiple, competing demands while maintaining schedules and meeting timelines
ƒ{ Excellent presentation, facilitation, written and verbal communication and listening skills
