Due to the retirement of the incumbent, Rocky View Schools (RVS) invites applications for the position of Associate Superintendent of Human Resources. Duties will commence March 4, 2019, or as mutually agreed.
Bordering the City of Calgary to the north, west and east, RVS is Alberta’s fifth largest school division, serving the educational needs of over 24,000 students within 50 schools, located in the City of Airdrie, the Town of Cochrane, the City of Chestermere, and Rocky View County.
A rapidly growing school division, RVS employs more than 2,500 staff and has an annual operating budget of approximately $275,000,000. RVS is in a strong financial position and is known for its innovative culture. RVS’ Education Centre is located in Airdrie, thirty minutes from downtown Calgary.

The Associate Superintendent of Human Resources works closely with the Superintendent of Schools. A member of our senior executive team, the role oversees strategic human resource planning, talent management, employee total compensation, employee relations, performance management, organizational/staff development, and occupational health and safety.
RVS seeks a proven, collaborative leader with 10+ years of professional experience managing the human resources efforts of a comparable organization, preferably a school division or public sector organization. The ideal candidate’s approach will actively demonstrate their belief that people are our greatest strength. They have built and maintained high functioning, multi-disciplinary, dynamic teams and have consistently demonstrated their ability to creatively solve problems, while overseeing a broad portfolio of services and supports. Evident through their actions, is a strong commitment to the organization.
The successful candidate holds a Master’s degree, preferably with a human resources specialization along with a Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation (CPHR) or equivalent.
A strong advocate for the needs of students and staff, the successful candidate will be able to build strong working relationships, support the jurisdiction’s goals, demonstrate compassion, champion public education, work collaboratively with local and provincial partners, and maintain accountability for the work of the team. They balance attention to details along with an understanding of the big picture. They develop strong, positive working relationships with all employees and groups representing those employees.
The successful candidate will be a personable, approachable leader, who is a strong communicator with a good understanding and ability to lead initiatives in support of divisional goals.
