The BC Family Maintenance Agency (BCFMA) is a British Columbia Crown Agency responsible for the management and operation of the Family Maintenance Enforcement Program (FMEP). The FMEP was established in 1988 under the Family Maintenance Enforcement Act in the Ministry of Attorney General. FMEP is responsible for monitoring and enforcing child or spousal support payments by helping to ensure families receive the money to which they are entitled under a maintenance order or agreement.
The FMEP was originally provided as a contracted service. In the fall of 2018, the Government of BC directed the Ministry of Attorney General to establish a new dedicated Agency to deliver its services. The BCFMA was subsequently incorporated in 2019. Working with Government to support the goals of increasing justice and delivering services to citizens in a customer-focused way, the Agency is building a foundation for services that are predictable, sustainable and able to change and expand as required.
The changes to the organization over the last 30 years have been immense, from the number of staff and cases through to the way that work is managed. What hasn’t changed is the care and commitment, and the continuing drive of the organization to do the right things, and to do them the right way. BCFMA operations are led by an executive team that is supported by professional staff (business and technology solutions, case management, payment processing and financial services) located in Victoria, Burnaby, and Kamloops. By putting families first, the BCFMA has a family-friendly work environment that supports the personal and professional needs of all staff.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the senior operational executive for the BCFMA. The CEO is ultimately accountable for the performance and overall success of the BCFMA operations. The CEO, pursuant to the direction of the Board of Directors, is responsible for the strategic direction and overall service delivery of the FMEP and all other programs and services delivered by the BCFMA. The CEO leads an executive team to ensure that goals and objectives of the Agency are met.
BCFMA is currently accepting applications for the CEO position. The start date for this position is in March/April or as mutually agreed to by the candidate and BCFMA.This position is based out of the BCFMA Victoria Client Office in Victoria, BC with regular travel to Burnaby and Kamloops offices.
The ideal candidate will bring proven executive leadership experience, must have the strategic orientation to manage high profile, politically sensitive and complex contractual, financial, resource and technology issues, as well as possess the acumen necessary to balance government policy priorities, corporate interests, and effective program delivery.
The successful candidatewill be an exceptional statesperson in order to cultivate and manage the required internal and external relationships necessary to carry out BCFMA’s mandate. They will be an excellent communicator, able to facilitate integration across work unitsshowing concern for both people and productivity. They will possessdiplomacy, tact, the presence, stature and ability to build credibility.
The ideal candidate will also have a post-secondary undergraduate degree supplemented by continuous skill/professional development, considerable experience managing in government, government-funded services or managing in other services, preferably in health, human, social or justice services.They will possess proven leadership experience, significant experience managing organizational financial processes including budgeting and maintaining financial integrity.
