The financial analyst – financial planning & analysis is responsible for providing financial analyses of, and business case development support to, operating projects/programs and supporting revenue structures. This position also provides variance analysis to operating departments and programs, and assists in the development of VFPA's 5 year financial plan and capital plans, annual operating and capital budgets, and the balanced scorecards.
This role will:
• Perform financial analyses of operating projects/programs, develop financial models to support
analysis, analyze key performance indicators, and providing financial guidance and inputs to
departments as required to drive improvements in business performance
• Provide information and analysis to support business case development processes, including
consideration of alternative approaches, analysis of key risks, and development of mitigations
• Working closely with the departments, support the development of VFPA’s 5 year financial, capital
and borrowing plans, and annual operating and capital budgets, including the provision of base-
level inputs, assumptions, and analysis on operating budget and forecast
• Provide accurate, complete, and timely variance analysis on departmental costs to support
department management in cost control, and assist in the formulation of follow-up action plans,
providing commentary as required. Assist management with development of project cost
estimates and updated budgets and forecasts
• Support the development of VFPA’s annual balanced scorecards, including efficiency metrics and
subsequent progress reporting
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance, or another acceptable field. Must also have a minimum of three years' experience in management reporting, budgeting, financial modelling and analysis. Advanced Excel skills required with demonstrated ability to build and maintain financial models. A Chartered Professional Accountant designation is an asset.
This position is ideal for an individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively and positively. Must demonstrate aptitude and ability for tactful and diplomatic interaction, along with solid analytical abilities. Must be detail oriented and committed to a high level of accuracy. Must be a highly motivated and proactive individual with a strong orientation to customer service coupled with the ability to facilitate information gathering. Must be committed to a philosophy of continuous improvement in all work processes. Must be able to work independently and as a member of the team, with ability to prioritize workload and to work under pressure. Requires an excellent command of the English language, both oral and written.
