Construction Manager
SUMMARY:
This person will ideally be from a Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic background and someone who exhibits strong leadership skills and whose behaviours exemplify those of a professional Startec Mechanic. In addition to the normal duties of a Mechanic, the Foreman is responsible for running the day-to-day operations on the construction site and controlling the production schedule. As an extension of management in the field, the Foreman supports and upholds corporate policies and procedures and leads by example.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- He or she will be responsible for assisting in the assessment, training and creation of developmental plans for mechanics in their region
- Works collaboratively with management to ensure scheduling, material cost control and execution of work meets the highest standards for our customers
- Train and mentor employees under his or her supervision and ensure appropriate use of equipment and PPE by employees.
- Assist other mechanics either on the job or remotely, even on evenings and weekends when possible.
- To assist and support with sales and administrative activities as required.
- Provide operating feedback and identify opportunities for improvement for discussion with management.
- Act as the primary onsite contact for the customer. Overseeing daily time reporting, onsite performance, subcontractor performance, and inspections.
JOB DUTIES:
- Ensure materials are received on site correctly and unused materials are returned to the vendor or parts department
- Coordinate pressure tests and maintain all QC documentation
- Maintain weld mapping and welding inch logs
- Update as built drawings as required.
- Send in the time daily for all the mechanics are your project including routing codes.
- Ensure daily house keeping is being completed and that the site is cleaned up at the end of the project and/or job.
- Maintain onsite records for ABSA & Safety.
- Sign off on 3rd party invoices to make sure the match up with the work completed on site.
- Perform start-ups, inspection, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of refrigeration and compression systems, and the correction of system problems
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, and manufacturer instructions to independently construct, assemble and install equipment
- Train customers in the operation and basic maintenance of their systems
- Work with Parts personnel to order parts and supplies, and maintain inventory records
- Demonstrate the highest level of customer service including prompt, friendly, competent and ethical service
- Work safely, observing all safety rules and regulations, and ensure a safe environment for others affected by the work
- Perform all work in accordance with our Quality Control program wherever applicable.
- Perform all work in compliance with the Startec Safety Manual
- Complete all paperwork and reports as required by the customer and Startec on a timely and consistent basis to help ensure invoicing is completed in a timely fashion
- Complete monthly training audits for Mechanics under your supervision, providing feedback to employees and documenting findings.
- Other duties that may arise during the performance of the job function
REQUIREMENTS:
- Journeyman level trade certification in an applicable trade skill
- 5 years or greater field experience. Ammonia construction experience required
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver abstract
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Excellent organizational, project planning and scheduling skills
- Ability to successfully pass a functional (able to lift 50lbs), alcohol, and drug test
- Ability to work independently or in a team and on-call as required
- Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite)
