Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Team Lead of the Child & Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry Unit, will be responsible for collaborating with the patient, family, multidisciplinary team and other service providers to coordinate, facilitate and participate in assessment, and treatment intervention with a focus on flow coordination for children and adolescents, typically under 18 years of age. The incumbent will be responsible for team lead duties, will have a reduced patient load, will coordinate patient flow from regional ERs to the unit and will demonstrate a strong knowledge of community resources for children & adolescents. The Team Lead will also work with the support of the staffing department and Clinical Manager to ensure shifts are appropriately staffed. This position ensures overall maintenance of a safe, clean and orderly environment for patients, staff and visitors. You will participate in service committees and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.
• Current certificate of Competence, College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing, • BScN required, • Three years relevant experience working within a Psychiatric Acute Care Setting required, • Required minimum of at least one year experience working with children and adolescents presenting with complex mental health problems, • Strong knowledge of Child & Adolescent Community Resources required,• Practices in accordance with Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing required, • Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act and F&CS required, • Functions effectively & collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team required, • Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing certificate preferred• De-escalation training and Code White experience required
Demonstrated competency in the following skills:• Current knowledge and experience in administration/monitoring of psychotropic medication for the Child and Adolescent population• Knowledge and skills in initial Family Assessment/Family Systems Nursing• Advanced skills in biopsychosocial assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment and discharge of psychiatric clients including SMI• Demonstrated ability to work with varying ages of children/adolescents presenting a wide range of emotional and behavioural problems required • Demonstrated ability to work within an interdisciplinary team setting required• Demonstrated skills in crisis assessment and risk management required • Excellent interviewing skills • Excellent verbal/written communication skills required • Functions independently and collaboratively• Participates in team building, service development and improvement activities that contribute to a healthy workplace environment• Proven ability to practice independently using excellent organizational, problem solving and milieu management skills• Good attendance record
