Golder has a new opportunity for an Intermediate Geotechnical Technologist or Geotechnical Engineer on a full time basis our Whitby, Barrie and Markham location. You will join our Construction Services and Materials Engineer and Laboratory Group as a client facing, Consultant/Project Manager as a part of the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH) Operations.
An overview of your role will include:
- Work directly with clients as point of contact to facilitate the timely delivery of geotechnical and materials testing services during construction, design or acquisition on multiple projects
- Business Development and Client Relationship Management
- Supervision of geotechnical or materials testing field programs on multiple sites
- Daily review of field and lab testing and problem solving during construction
- Co-ordinate services from multiple disciplines during client project life cycle
- Manage project budgets and invoicing
- Completing and/or supervising field inspections/subsurface investigations as follows:
- Compaction of Soils, Aggregate and Asphalt
- Concrete Testing (Slump, Air, Cylinders)
- Monitoring of Engineered Fill
- Foundation Inspections including Deep Foundations
- Reinforcing Steel Inspection
- Geotechnical Boreholes and Test Pits
- Other specialized testing equipment as required
- Analyse the results of various test procedures to assess and provide comments on the adequacy of results
- Prepare Technical Memorandum’s for routine correspondence with clients during construction
- Prepare detailed reports summarizing the results of Materials Monitoring and Testing for clients
- Responsible to provide mentoring and training to junior and intermediate staff
- Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acts as a role model to other staff
Qualifications
You will have a background in:
- Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Technologist Diploma or Civil Engineering Degree
- 10 years previous experience working as a field Technologist or Engineer
- Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist (C.E.T.), Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.), Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or eligible for Engineer –in- Training (E.I.T.) status
- Familiar with Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPPS) test procedure and requirements, and local municipal standards and specifications
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical concepts, materials and asphalt
- Comfortable both in construction and office environments
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer usage
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment
- Detail oriented with emphasis on safety and quality of work
