TRIUMF’s Targets & Ions Sources department encompasses a broad cross-section of the systems required for radioactive ion beam production, including target production and operation. In support of these activities, we are currently accepting applications for a junior to intermediate Technician to join our Target Production & Operations Group and provide skilled mechanical and technical support. You will primarily be responsible for the operation of master-slave manipulators in hot cells; maintenance, service and repair of hot cell equipment and other machinery; and assisting with research and development within the department and ARIEL project. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Safe and reliable operation of the ISAC hot cells to meet beam delivery schedule
- Collecting and analyzing data and samples in support of quality assurance
- Participating in the design and development of new and existing infrastructure
- Assisting with mock-up and prototype hot cell operations
You will also be required to successfully complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.

You have experience with mechanical assembly and basic electrical circuits, and your excellent eyesight and hand dexterity allows you to perform sensitive, detailed operational tasks. Your other qualifications include:
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings and bills of materials
- A diploma from a technical institute in the areas of mechatronics, mechanical operation, production, maintenance or machining
- At least 2 years of practical and relevant experience after graduation
While not required, the following would be considered a definite asset to your application: knowledge of vacuum systems, radiation environments, cooling systems, and high voltage; and fabrication and manufacturing skills with drills, mills, and lathes.
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
