SENIOR COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST
Our client is a locally owned, family-operated customs brokerage and freight logistics company founded in 1955 and located in downtown Vancouver. Their purpose is to make it easier for values-based businesses to succeed in the global marketplace and their vision is a global community where trade enhances understanding and quality of life. They are customs brokers, international freight forwarders and logistics specialists.
You will join an awesome team of 22 of very experienced customs raters and up-and-coming staff who are learning fast. Your role is to ensure delivery of strong customs compliance performance. Help them continue to work smart and strategically so they manage business growth while maintaining their reputation as highly skilled, accurate customs brokers.
You are a leader – formally or informally – and thrive in a fast-paced operations environment.
What you need to succeed;
You have at least 5 years (ideally more) experience classifying goods according to the Canadian customs tariff – and you love to catch problems! If not already a certified trade compliance specialist (CTCS), you want to become one.
Broad and deep knowledge of Canadian customs regulations including strong skills in HS tariff classification
Strong knowledge of other government department (OGD) regulations and requirements
Strong software skills including data entry speed, Microsoft 365 including Excel, and experienced in a paperless environment
Descartes Canadian customs brokerage software (ITMR4) experience a strong asset; and keen interest in leveraging/extending Descartes compliance features
US exports, logistics/freight and leadership experience is an asset
Coaching and strong interpersonal skills

What will you do;
Lead quality control (QC) transaction review process for customs operations team
Daily review of flagged customs transactions to ensure correct tariff classification, valuation, trade agreement alignment and accurate documentation
Work with senior managers to ensure a robust and size appropriate customs risk management program performs effectively
Lead continuous improvement in quality control and compliance
Participate in new client set-up to contribute a solid compliance foundation
